Lesson: Compare and Contrast
Christmas Story
At the high school level I would ask students to read both Matthew’s and Luke’s version of the birth of Jesus. I would ask them in pairs/groups to find similarities and differences between the two versions. I would ask them to brainstorm possible reasons why they think the differences occurred and the possible reason why Mark doesn’t talk about the birth of Jesus. Through discussion based on their brainstorming I would lead the students to understand that we don’t really know much about Jesus’ early life and the story of the birth of Jesus is there in the Gospels to show us the relationship between God and Jesus.
