Lesson on Diligence for the Grade 12, Calculus Class
If you encounter children on a regular basis, you are teaching character by example, whether you mean to or not. This past weak I had a conversation with my math class about time management in order to get their work done on time. This is an important character feature for a student to have for future endeavors. I find many students rather play X-box or social text rather than completing schoolwork, studying, being prompt to work or school, and/ or helping others. I mentioned to the students that being diligent in their work lead to success in whatever they may want to accomplish – a good work ethic is a key to success.
The class brainstormed on ways to organize and keep track of one’s time. Basically, how to be successful at university or everyday life? I closed the conversation, paraphrasing Proverbs 16:27: “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop”. Thus, when a person combines diligence with faith then that will assure spiritual success.
Reflection:
The virtues and the Catholic Graduate Expectations (CGE) both represent the good moral character that a person or a graduate should possess. Since we are talking about good moral character the two should have a lot of connections and overlaps between them. Many of the CGEs are related to a number of virtues.
For example: Responsible citizen
This CGE has imbedded in it – solidarity, community, compassion, and stewardship.
